Qatar Rail has opened registration to occupy commercial spaces available at the stations of the Doha Metro Project, a press release said on Saturday.
With over 9200 m2 of retail space across 37 stations, these outlets are considered the first of its kind in Qatar as it provides business access to railway commuters and neighbouring customers.
The registration is open for retail spaces available at the Red Line stations from Al Wakrah to Al Qassar (total of 13 stations)and the retail shops offered comprise 86 retail units. In addition to the retail outlets, stations will also include dedicated spaces for 46 ATMs and 27 Vending Machines to serve Metro users and neighbouring customers.
Abdulla Abdulaziz al Subaie, Qatar Rail's MD & CEO, said,"The Doha Metro project is a comprehensive development project and will change the transport landscape in Qatar. Metro stations will not only attract commuters but also residents of surrounding areas. This initiative comes as a part of our strategies to further enhance transit ridership, non-fare revenue, support small and medium enterprises and induce economic growth."
He added,"We are opening the registration process for retail units available at Doha Metro Red line stations. After the registration is concluded, all applications will go through a comprehensive review and selection will be made based on experience and proposed business plan.
Subaie said other factors that would be taken in consideration include store concept and the nature of the activity,"as we aim to achieve diversity and integration between the various retail outlets to better service our customers and metro commuters."
The transit stations provide constant, significant foot fall and thus are premium locations for retail outlets. Stations will offer four main types of retail including services, food and beverage, convenience stores and general retail.
