A fresh batch of officers and commanders has successfully graduated at the fourth round of the Joint Command and Staff course at the Joaan Bin Jassim Joint Command and Staff College.
The batch included officers from various units of the Qatari armed forces, the Emiri Guards, Lekhwiya, the Ministry of Interior and some foreign military units.
The graduation ceremony was held at the Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College under the patronage of Minister of State for Defence Affairs HE Dr Khalid bin Mohammed al Attiyah.
Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces HE Major-General (Pilot) Ghanem bin Shaheen al Ghanem and a number of senior officials, officers and faculty members were also present.
The fourth course was the first to be taught in Arabic, Commander of the college Brigadier-General Mohammed bin Hamad al Nuaimi said, noting that the institution was preparing officers, who are being chosen from different ranks and units, to fill leadership positions.
This course, he added, came in accordance with the developed and modern educational curricula that include international and regional changes to enrich the military and academic thought and upgrade skills of all officers.
The college commander said the graduates had spent about 10 months attending classes in the college and received lectures in planning, analysis and management of battles from the stages of receiving tasks to issuing orders.
They also received courses in strategies, management science, military information and international law.
He pointed out that the military history was a part of the course, which ended with a"war game" exercise, which tested the officers' practical competence and intellectual abilities to manage joint operations.
The course included 44 officers from all branches of the Qatari armed forces, the Ministry of the Interior, the internal security force (Lekhwiya) and the Emiri Guard, as well as officers from Kuwait and Oman, he said.
He said the college was seeking to offer a master's programme in strategic and security studies, stressing that the programme would have a great role in moulding the competence and culture of future officers.
The Brigadier-General lauded the support given to the college by HE Khalid bin Mohammed al Attiyah and HE Major-General (Pilot) Ghanem bin Shaheen al Ghanem.
