QATAR has said that the illegal unilateral measures taken by the siege countries violate human rights by impacting negatively education, health, family, freedom of movement and residence, ownership right and right to freedom of expression of people.
This came in Qatar's statement delivered by its Permanent Representative to the United Nations HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif al Thani during the UN General Assembly's general debate on the report of the Human Rights Council, in which she renewed Qatar's commitment to continue its role in the promotion and protection of human rights, in a constructive, impartial and objective manner, and in cooperation with relevant international organisations and United Nations bodies, in particular the Human Rights Council, and its special bodies and mechanisms.
Sheikha Alia said that in light of the impact of these illegal measures on human rights, the international community must ensure compliance with international law and not allow policies to be imposed on States to achieve special objectives.
Such violations are detrimental to international efforts to promote human rights, development and international peace and security, she added.
Her Excellency reiterated Qatar's condemnation of the terrorist act in the New York City, expressing condolences to the victims' families, the Government and the friendly people of the United States and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
She also renewed Qatar's solidarity with the United States and its full support for all actions taken to maintain security and stability.
The State of Qatar has materialised its commitment to international cooperation in order to achieve the objectives of the United Nations regarding protection of human rights and maintaining international peace and security by adopting them in its policy and legislative system, she pointed out.
She added that this trend has also reflected in the building of national institutions, which today actively contribute to the implementation of the State's policy to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Sheikha Alia emphasised that Qatar cooperates with other States and United Nations human rights mechanisms through an open door policy.
HE Sheikha Alia noted that the Qatar National Vision 2030 is based on important axes that enshrine the strategic approach of the State of Qatar in the field of human rights as a basic option for upgrading education systems, health and environment, labour rights, empowerment of women, persons with disabilities and the elderly.
She added that Qatar is hosting the United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, which was established by General Assembly Resolution 60/153 of February 12, 2006, because of its belief in international cooperation to protect human rights.

Sheikha Alia added further:"We have adopted a consistent approach to the promotion of human rights and approval of international and human rights organisations."
She also referred to the report of the Human Rights Council to the General Assembly on the difficult situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, and pointed out that the achievement of peace in the Middle East should be based on respect for international humanitarian law and the international human rights law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and to comply with the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly, the Security Council and the Human Rights Council.
She added:"It is also clear from the report of the Human Rights Council the serious deterioration of the human rights situation in Syria, including the systematic and widespread violations of international humanitarian law, which must protect the Syrian people and support efforts to perpetuate the cease-fire and stop violations, is essential for a political solution to the crisis and an end to human suffering."
Sheikha Alia expressed her pride in Qatar's continued commitment to the Human Rights Council through its membership in the Council and its re-election for the period 2018-2020.
She said:"We reaffirm our commitment to continue to work hard and effectively within the framework of the Council to promote human rights and fundamental freedoms".
