The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) honoured the schools and student winners of the Future Qatar competition. Launched by the ministry in September in cooperation with Microsoft Qatar, the competition aimed to promote sustainability and adopt technological capabilities toward innovative solutions to sustainable and environmental challenges.

The awards ceremony was attended by Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi. Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs at the MoEHE Maha Zayed Al Ruwaili and General Manager of Microsoft Qatar Lana Khalaf awarded the certificates to the winning students and supervisors in the competition.

The competition included implementing technology to innovate solutions to environmental problems, as well as designing more sustainable cities and communities by using Minecraft Education.

The awards ceremony included a presentation of the projects that participated in the competition from 59 public schools, as well as footage of the final judging. This gave an idea about the innovative work of the students, especially since the winning projects demonstrated high levels of creativity and thinking, reflecting the promising capabilities of the next generation of innovators, engineers and urban planners.

Wadha Al Marri, E-Learning Consultant at the MoEHE, mentioned that one of the objectives of the competition was to enhance the concept of sustainability among students in Qatar.

Al Marri further stated that male and female students from various government schools and all educational levels participated in the competition and showcased creativity in designing sustainable cities that take into account the environment and the population’s social and economic needs. This demonstrated their creativity and innovation and their ways of providing inspiring solutions to future sustainable challenges.

General Manager of Microsoft Qatar praised the collaborative work between the MoEHE and Expo 2023 Doha in organizing the competition. She also highlighted the level of creativity shown by the students during the competition.

Student from Al Khor Preparatory School for Girls Ghalia Sultan Al Hamidi, on behalf of the honourees, appreciated the initiative of holding this competition and its role in encouraging students to innovate, address environmental challenges and make Qatar more sustainable in the future.

Organising events such as the Future Qatar competition reflects the MoEHE’s firm commitment to promoting innovation, digital creativity and sustainability among students of both genders, as well as developing the technical skills and capabilities of the future generations and contributing to building a prosperous and sustainable future for Qatar.
