MULTI-awarded Filipino singer and songwriter Joey Albert on Saturday paid a musical tribute to popular Filipino actress Isabel Granada, who passed away at Hamad General Hospital following brain haemorrhage.
During a concert hosted by Saladmaster at City Centre Rotana Doha, Joey dedicated one of her classic hits"Ikawlangangmamahalin" to the late actor, terming it as a fitting way to say goodbye to Isabel.
She was joined by the audience in the heartfelt rendition of the song.
Isabel Granada, who was in Doha to grace a Filipino trade and tourism event recently, died of brain haemorrhage due to aneurysm.
The remains of the 41-year old actress are expected to be flown to Manila on Wednesday.
"I have survived cancer three times. After dealing with three cancers, I realised that the most important thing in life is the time at your disposal. Our friend Isabel didn't have much time to spend with her loved ones. Our lives can change in one second. The most important thing in life, therefore, is not money, fame or career, but the time that we have," Joey said.
Her performance during the appreciation night of Saladmaster, a company promoting healthy lifestyle through its line of cookware, was attended by Executive Vice President for Filipino Global Market Alfredo Pacis and wife Carmencita Pacis, Philippine Labor Attache to Qatar David Des Dicang, United Filipino Organizations in Qatar Chairman Eng. Henry Dimaano and select community leaders.
Talking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of the concert, Joey expressed her appreciation for being given a chance to perform and meet her fans in Qatar and at the same time to promote healthy lifestyle.
"I am supporting this event because healthy lifestyle is the way of life for me, being a cancer survivor. At the same time, it has always been my goal in life to touch the hearts of Filipinos and inspire them through my music and stories of my life. I have been performing for overseas Filipinos mostly in the US, but I have been dreaming to reach out to Filipinos across Europe and in the Middle East," she said.
Joey performed her timeless hit songs before a packed audience which included"I remember the boy","Tell Me" and"Iisa pa lamang". The event also highlighted the outreach missions of Saladmaster in the Philippines through Gawad Kalinga, a poverty alleviation and nation-building movement.
