Global media need to demonstrate a sense of responsibility in serving the public interest, striving to create a positive, healthy and cohesive public opinion environment, QNA Director-General Ahmed Saeed Al Rumaihi has said, emphasising the media’s vital role in disseminating information and raising awareness.
Speaking to China’s news agency Xinhua on the sidelines of the 5th World Media Summit (WMS) which kicked off in southern China’s city of Guangzhou on Sunday, Rumaihi said media play a foundational and multifaceted role in addressing global issues and ensuring public enlightenment.
“This role includes monitoring events, disseminating information, analysing problems and promoting discussions, in addition to enriching analysis by providing analysis and articles that contribute to a deeper understanding of global issues and presenting multiple perspectives,” he said.
More than 450 participants from 101 countries are taking part in the event being held under the theme ‘Boosting Global Confidence, Promoting Media Development’ and will run until December 8.
In his speech at the opening of the summit, President of China’s news agency Xinhua Fu Hua emphasised the importance of strengthening relations and discovering opportunities between media outlets in various countries of the world. The third World Media Summit was held in Doha in 2016 under the theme ‘The Future of News and News Organisations’.
