Nine food products made locally by nine Qatari companies are now made available at Al Meera outlets, thanks to an initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) in cooperation with Bedaya, a centre that supports entrepreneurship.
Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at MEC HE Sheikh Jassem bin Jabor al Thani said,"It comes as part of the national projects initiative with the support of the ministry. We are now highlighting some of the Qatari-made products to ease their access to the market."
He added,"Since the embargo, many companies have had big opportunity in the local market."
Sheikh Jassem said,"The ministry is easing the issuance of licences, access of products to the market and removal of any obstacles that the companies are facing."
The products displayed at Al Meera are of high quality. A small bag of salted peanut is available for QR8.5, karamish of 150g for QR33, chocolate milk biscuits (600g) for QR57, cake (250g) for QR16, chocolate cake (250g) for QR17.75, creep (192g) for QR16, mutabel (150g) for QR6.75 and hommous (150g) for QR6.5.
The prices of fresh juice bottles range between QR9.5 and QR12.5, while spices between QR34 and QR5. Almond butter (250ml) is priced at QR89, while crushed Arabic coffee (1kg) at QR94.
Executive Vice President of Al Meera Salah al Hammadi said,"The National Product initiative comes within the framework of Al Meera's commitment to support small and medium enterprises by providing them an ideal platform to establish a foothold and expand their presence in the market."
"Al Meera's procurement policy focuses on the supply of goods and services from the local market in line with our decision to be a part of local business and community partnerships."
He added,"By participating in this initiative, we are not only promoting entrepreneurship but also setting a model for national institutions and companies in Qatar to achieve economic development goals in line with Qatar National Vision 2030."
General Manager of Bedaya Center Reem al Suwaidi said,"The 'National Product' initiative will enable startups to showcase and market their food and consumer products at Al Meera, the largest store chain in Qatar."
