THE Managing Director of Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) Dr Mariam Abdul Malik highlighted Qatar's achievements in a presentation on the concluding day of the 3rd International Primary Care Conference titled 'Building blocks for Primary Health Care (Dynamic Transformation)'.
In her insightful presentation, Dr Mariam Abdul Malik described PHCC's journey as the first step to healthcare in the Qatar's health system and the milestones achieved by the corporation in recent years.
She mentioned Diamond Accreditation of the PHCC, satisfaction of 70 percent patients with primary health services as revealed by National patient survey, achievement of 80 percent of the National Primary Health Strategy in this context.
She added that the PHCC provides over 240 clinics and consultation rooms and serves 8529 patients daily. The total number of registered patients at PHCC is 1,250 225 while 6000 staff take care of them, Dr Abdul Malik revealed.
She reaffirmed that in order to continue this successful journey, the PHCC will focus on leadership, training and collaborations in healthcare.
The presentation also highlighted PHCC's vision for 2022, including making high quality and comprehensive services easily accessible to all the residents of Qatar cutting across nationality and community lines.
The vision also includes providing family physician for each patient as well as access to a trained health team that can offer appropriate advice, diagnosis and treatment and continuity of care.
Furthermore, the vision seeks greater use of information and technology to improve primary health care, expansion of health services delivered and regular interaction between doctors and patients, as well as greater community driven services.
Dr Abdul Malik commented"This year's conference has undoubtedly given us all a lot to think about. It has also given us an opportunity to share with our international colleagues Qatar's legacy to promote the health and wellbeing of people through the provision of outstanding healthcare services."
"2017 has been an important year for PHCC with us being on the way to achieving significant milestones. The last strategy set the foundation of primary care while the current one (2018 2022) focuses on delivering health outcomes, advocating health promotion and preventative care and projecting primary care as the first step to healthcare", she added.
The 3rd Day of the conference also featured key note speaker Prof Lord Darzi, Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of Sidra and a Member of the Qatar Foundation Advisory delivering a key note on innovation in primary care &community services.
He commented"Primary care plays a pivotal role in connecting and supporting communities to enhance health and well-being. An integrated, digitally wise cross-disciplinary primary health centre connected to a broader community network can offer more than just a medical service."
Shiekh Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Thani, director of Public Health at the Ministry of Public Health also spoke on the occasion.
