SOUQ HAL QATAR, a commercial exhibition featuring the hand-made products of more than 30 Qatari families ,was recently launched at Hyatt Plaza shopping mall. The launch took place in the presence of Qatar Chamber Board Member Ibthihaj al Ahmedani, Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khaled bin Hamad al Thani on behalf of HE Sheikh Khaled bin Hamad al Thani and Hyatt Plaza Vice Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Khaled bin Hamad al Thani and other VIPs and dignitaries. Ahmedani, said that her participation in the launch ceremony stemmed from the Chamber's interest in encouraging home-made businesses and entrepreneurs, and supporting them by providing free space to display their products in the mall. She noted that the home-made business sector bolsters the 'Made in Qatar' slogan and expands the contribution of locally produced items inside and outside the country.
Speaking about the role played by Qatari businesswomen in the national economy, Ahmadani said that female exhibitors registered a strong presence in the exposition. They displayed their products in innovative ways which were appreciated much by visitors to the mall, she pointed out.
Ahmadani also thanked Hyatt Plaza for providing the opportunity for entrepreneurs to showcase their products for a whole month.
Under the patronage of the Qatar Chamber, Souq Hal Qatar at Hyatt Plaza provides the platform for micro-enterprises to showcase a wide range of goods produced by home-based businesses like clothes, food, perfumes and accessories.
Hyatt Plaza Vice Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Khaled bin Hamad al Thani said,"We firmly believe that Souq Hal Qatar will provide Qatari families an opportunity to develop their businesses further, and in the long run will create great value to our country's economy."
He also thanked Qatar Chamber for its support and co-operation in organising Souq Hal Qatar.
"Initiatives like Souq Hal Qatar, which promote small and medium businesses are important catalysts in our nation's journey to create a fully diversified and sustainable economy.
"We are glad to launch this exhibition. This is our first step and we will create more initiatives in the coming months to support the SMEs" he said.
Souq Hal Qatar is happening in the specially designed Qatari Souq located at Gate No 2 of Hyatt Plaza.
Hyatt Plaza General Manager Feroz Moideen pointed out that visitors will get to experience a traditional souq ambience at the event venue.
"Such initiatives reaffirm Hyatt Plaza's commitment to contribute and support the community we serve. We had a great response from the traders and all available outlets are occupied by home-based businesses offering a wide variety of products to the customers," said Moideen.
The exhibition will run until December 8 and be open from 9 am to 10 pm on weekdays, 9 am to 11 pm on Thursdays and 2 pm to 11 pm on Fridays.
