DOHA: A Palestinianteam beat a Qatar team on penalties (4-3) after the end of regular time with a draw (2-2) in a charity match attended by more than 27,000 spectators on Friday at Education City Stadium, as part of the 'For Palestine Initiative'.

The initiativefor solidarity with the Palestinian people collected donations amounting to approximately QR20mn.

The initiative was attended by Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, along with several sheikhs and ministers.

Theyouth initiative, launched by students of Qatar Academy - Doha, affiliated with Qatar Foundations pre-university education, comes to involve members of the local community in solidarity with the people of Palestine, as the proceeds from the match tickets will go entirely to support relief efforts for the Palestinian people, in cooperation with Qatar Charity (QC).

The friendly match witnessed a group of students from Qatar Academy - Doha and the Palestinian School in Qatar competing along with an elite group of personalities from the world of local and international football, media figures, and social media influencers in two Qatari and Palestinian teams.

More than 100 students from the academy also volunteered in the event, under the supervision of school teachers who were trained by the Asian Football Confederation.
