KUWAIT: The State of Kuwait, with the demise of the late Amir of the State of Kuwait HH Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has lost one of the most dedicated men who for decades has contributed to shaping Kuwait's history, building its glory and holding high the banner of Kuwait.
The late Amir of Kuwait pursued Kuwait's approach concerning its relationship with Arab sisterly countries. He was determined to coordinate with Arab leaders in every matter related to Arab causes and have constructive cooperation with them in the quest for solving problems facing the Arab nation, emphasising the Palestinian issue as the primary cause of Arab nations.
The late Amir of Kuwait was also pursuing the approach Kuwait has used for decades in its relations with the countries of the world, in terms of respecting the sovereignty of nations, non-interference in their domestic affairs, adhering to international legitimacy, maintaining international security and peace, as well as resolving and settling disputes among nations through dialogue and peaceful means.
The late Amir of Kuwait was born on June 25, 1937, and was the sixth male son of the late Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the tenth Amir of Kuwait, who assumed power in Kuwait between 1921 and 1950 and was a model for his sons and the rulers who succeeded him.
HH Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away at 86, was crowned as Amir of Kuwait on Sept 29, 2020, succeeding his late brother Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to be the 16th ruler of the country based on the constitution and provisions of the Emirates inheritance law, after 58 years of dedication in several positions during which he served Kuwait.
This started by appointing him as governor of the Hawalli governorate, then Minister of Interior, Minister of Defense, Minister of Social and Labour Affairs, Deputy Chief of the National Guard and finally Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
His last position before assuming the Emirate was Crown Prince, per the Amiri decree issued by the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Feb 7, 2006, nominating His Highness for the Crown Prince.
On Sept 30, 2020, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad was sworn in as Amir of Kuwait before a special session of the Kuwaiti National Assembly.
