Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) will spend over QR38 billion in water and electricity projects over the next five years.
Presenting the roadmap for future plans at the 'Annual Planning Forum 2017' on Thursday, Director of Planning and Quality Department at Kahramaa Ibrahim al Emadi said,"Construction of two out of the five mega water reservoirs is nearing completion. These reservoirs with a storage capacity of 600 million gallons of water will enhance agricultural production supporting the National Food Security Programme. Kahramaa's electricity production will also be increased to 14,000 megawatt, once the projects are completed. The projects will be implemented in different phases."
The plans include increasing production, reducing per capita consumption of water and electricity through public awareness programmes and use of environment-friendly technology as an integrated business strategy for sustainable development.
Kahramaa President Essa bin Hilal al Kuwari said,"The recommendations by the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani in his speech at the opening session of Advisory Council and the ten topics of the Second National Strategic Development (2017-2022), are the framework and basis of Kahramaa's next phase of development 2018-2022."
Kuwari said Kahramaa has established Innovation and Creativity Incubator for its staff, and also for people in all fields. It has also completed the Business Integration Project that will be implemented by the beginning of 2018.
The event featured a number of sessions with Planning and Quality Department presenting an overview of the five-year plan.
It also reviewed the most important indicators under Electricity Network Affairs, Water Network Affairs, Technical Affairs, Shared Services Directorate and Corporate Departments.
