Qatar Charity’s (QC) office in The Gambia has implemented a qualitative project supporting the health sector by providing medical equipment and supplies to the Aso District Hospital. This initiative is expected to benefit more than 8,000 people in the northwestern region, especially the poorest, and is made possible through a generous donation from the people of Qatar. The project has garnered praise from Gambian officials.

During the event where the medical equipment was handed over, the First Lady of the Republic of The Gambia, Fatoumata Ba-Barrow, commended QC as a role model for institutions contributing to development in The Gambia. She conveyed the greetings of the President of The Gambia and acknowledged Qatar’s significant contribution. The First Lady highlighted QC’s support for the health and education sectors in the country, expressing gratitude to the Qatari people for their ongoing support of humanitarian projects.

The Minister of Health of The Gambia, Amadou Lamin Samteh, explained that the medical equipment provided by QC would enhance health services for the people of the city and neighbouring villages. It will aid in treating various diseases, including chronic conditions like cancer, heart issues and diabetes, as well as in performing safe surgical operations. The minister praised QC’s efforts in providing essential medical equipment, emphasising the significant need for such support.

Dr Saneh, the hospital director, expressed gratitude to QC for its support, highlighting that the new medical equipment would significantly improve the quality of healthcare in the region and neighbouring villages.

Lamin Sidikan, the governor of the North Bank Region, emphasised the region’s lack of basic health equipment, underscored the value of medical equipment, and thanked QC for its substantial contribution.

The ‘Fatumata Barro FABB’ Foundation, a partner of QC’s office in The Gambia for this project, emphasised the importance of the partnership, particularly in rapidly responding to the requirements of decent living through various implemented projects.
