Qatar's first-ever public park for children with special needs opened at Al Legtaifiya in West Bay on Monday.
Featuring modified playground equipment such as a slide and a swing for wheelchair users, the park opens a new frontier for accessibility in Qatar and invites children of all ages and abilities to play together.
Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work Amal al Mannai and Chief Executive Officer of Sasol Bongani Nqwababa inaugurated the 'Al Legtaifiya Park'.
Mohammed Ibrahim al Sada, Assistant Director of Public Parks Department, said the department is working on the development and renovation of all public parks in the country to make them enjoyable for all.
The department is ready to implement such pilot projects that serve a wide segment of society, he added.
Sasol President and CEO Bongani Nqwababa said,"Sasol believes that to build a strong society, we must include everyone. Strategic investments such as this playground, will lead the conversation and build awareness about the important role that people with disabilities can have in our communities."
The inclusive playground is the latest breakthrough for Accessible Qatar ” a Sasol initiative designed to support disabled community to enable them to visit public places and touristic locations and outlets in Qatar.
The park was designed and constructed by Sasol, the international integrated chemicals and energy company, in cooperation with the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
