HAMAD Medical Corporation's (HMC) Women's Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) has welcomed its first baby born at the new hospital.
Qatari parents Mr and Mrs Al Hababi, welcomed baby Tamim on Sunday (December 3). Weighing 3.2 kilogrammes, baby Tamim was delivered by a member of the hospital's highly specialised obstetric team in one of the WWRC's new state-of-the-art operating theatres.
Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohamed al Kuwari visited the family and the newborn to offer her congratulations and present Mrs Al Hababi and her newborn with a special gift.
Commenting on the first delivery, Dr Kuwari said:"We are extremely proud to welcome the first baby born at the Women's Wellness and Research Center, the largest women's tertiary hospital in the country."
"The birth of baby Tamim marks a major milestone in our journey towards the full opening of our new facility, which has been carefully designed to provide the women of Qatar with specialist care throughout all stages of their lives."
Over the next few months, the Women's Wellness and Research Center will gradually increase the number of women delivering babies at the facility as it works towards operating at full capacity. Women's Hospital will remain open and continue to run inpatient services, including labour and delivery until the new hospital is fully operational.
Commenting on his wife's experience, Mahdi Mesfer Mubarak al Hababi, said:"It is a tremendous honour that my wife was the first woman to deliver a baby at HMC's beautiful new facility. The wonderful team of doctors and nurses were passionate about ensuring she had the best possible birthing experience, providing her and our baby with the utmost guidance and care every step of the way."
According to Haila Johar, executive director of nursing at the Women's Wellness and Research Center, after her delivery, Mrs Al Hababi was brought to one of the facility's 260 inpatient rooms to recover and bond with her baby.
"The WWRC features single-patient rooms that have been purpose built to not only support the recovery process by promoting a calm and healing environment but also to encourage mother and baby bonding. Each room offers a spacious, light and airy environment with a baby cot next to each bed and a comfortable seating area for new mothers to rest and feed their babies," she said.
Commenting on the quality of care provided, Dr Hilal al Rifai, medical director of WWRC, said:"Ensuring every woman and her newborn receives the safest, most effective, and most compassionate care is our priority and this is of paramount importance in the delivery of each of our services. Our multidisciplinary team of highly qualified physicians, skilled nurses and dedicated support staff work tirelessly to deliver care that is tailored to the needs of each woman to ensure she has the best possible patient experience."
Commenting on the first birth, Dr Zeena Saeed al Mansoori, senior consultant of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the WWRC, said:"After many years of planning and preparation for the relocation of services from Women's Hospital to the Women's Wellness and Research Center, we are delighted to have safely delivered our first baby at this new facility."
Dr Huda Abdulla al Saleh, senior consultant, Obstetrics and Gynecology, said:"This first birth took place in December, during the auspicious month of Qatar National Day. It marks a significant moment for our teams and our community."
To date, more than 2,000 women have been scheduled at the WWRC for various outpatient clinics, including gyne-oncology, uro-gynecology and well-baby clinics, as well as the Specialist Gynecology Day Care Surgery Unit which successfully operated on its first patients last week.
