Qatar has announced that Doha will host Afghan peace negotiations that will start on Saturday.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday, "These direct negotiations between the various spectrums of the Afghan people are a serious and important step towards establishing sustainable peace in Afghanistan, especially after the United States of America and the Taliban signed the agreement to bring peace to Afghanistan at the beginning of this year."
Commenting on Doha's hosting of the Afghan peace talks, His Excellency Dr Mutlaq bin Majid Al-Qahtani, Special Envoy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Combating Terrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution, said: “The State of Qatar has always believed in diplomacy and constructive and direct dialogue between the parties to the conflict, and today it continues its work to achieve stability in the region. To thank all parties and international partners who have contributed to making this historic moment a reality on the ground.
