16 new private schools and kindergartens expected to become operational this academic year

Ministry of Education and Higher Education is working on increasing the number of schools following Indian and Filipino curricula in Qatar, which is expected to see 16 new private schools and kindergartens opening up this academic year.
Demand for seats in Indian and Filipino schools is on the rise due to an increase in the number of children in those expatriate communities, said Hamad Mohammed Al Ghali, the Director of Private Schools Licensing Department at the ministry.
He said the 16 schools and kindergartens that are preparing to start operations this year will add 8,870 more seats for new students. Of them, nine follow British curriculum, two follow American curriculum, three follow Indian curriculum, one follow Qatar National Standards for Special Needs Students and another follow the National Standards. Some of these schools and kindergartens are still completing licensing process, he added.
Al Ghali said student registration in private schools and kindergartens, which began last March, 2021 will continue until October 14, 2021. As for students coming from outside Qatar, they will be able to apply for registration in private schools and kindergartens in no later than the end of January 2022. During his visit to Al Rayyan Private School for Boys, he was keen to review the school admission system which is being implemented.
Al Ghali stated that the new schools that have completed their licensing procedures are Pearl Modern School which follows the Indian Curriculum, with a total capacity of 1099 students, Blue Nile Kindergarten which follows British Curriculum, with a capacity of 103 children, and Safir International Kindergarten, which also follows the British Curriculum, with a capacity of 165 children.
In addition, Al Ghali highlighted that 111 private schools and kindergartens are being operated under the Educational Voucher Scheme with four new schools to be added to the list this academic year — Eadad International Academy, Loydence Academy, Newton British School, and Al Mujtama Primary and Secondary Private School for Girls.
Al Ghali stressed that all Qatari students who study in private schools (which have obtained School Accreditation) benefit from the Educational Voucher System. He pointed out that parents are not required to be present at the Ministry to complete School Voucher entitlement process, but they would rather directly contact the school.
Omar Abdul Aziz Al Naama, Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, visited a number of private schools and kindergartens on Wednesday Thursday as the new academic year 2021/2022 kicked off across private schools and kindergartens. During the visits, he was assured of the smooth functioning of the schools in the first two days. The visits included Itqan Global Academy, ACS International School Doha, and Qatar International School. Mr. Hamad Mohamed Al Ghali, Director of the Private Schools Licensing Department, and Mr. Rashid Ahmed Al Ameri, Director of Private Schools Affairs Department also made inspection visits separately to several private schools and kindergartens in various parts of the country. The visits included the Next Generation School (TNG) Ain Khaled branch, Edison International Academy, and Al Rayyan Private School for Boys.
On such occasion, Al Naama congratulated students, teaching, and administrative staff on the start of the new school year. He wished them all every success, and that students will be able to make outstanding achievements. Meantime, the Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education Affairs Sector praised all the preparations and arrangements made by private schools and kindergartens particularly when it comes to attracting new staff, filling vacancies, and carrying out all necessary operational, maintenance and rehabilitation works for school facilities. Al Naama also spoke highly of the academic performance in terms of educational plans and programs introduced at such schools and kindergartens. In addition, he commended the outstanding efforts of the schools and kindergartens to ensure integration of ICT (e-learning) into the educational process. During his inspection visits, Al Naama was keen to discuss all related educational matters with the academic staff. He reviewed efficacy of the education system to function effectively, and the precautionary safety measures made to curb the spread of COVID -19 pandemic as 50% of students are expected to attend schools whilst the remainder of students will observe distance learning.
Al Naama emphasized that officials of the Private Education Affairs Sector held a series of video Conference meetings, over the last few days, with private schools and kindergartens. Schools and KGS leaders were appreciated for their dedicated efforts to ensure the smooth operations of schools without disruption of the educational day-to-day activities despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials of the Private Education Affairs Sector were hopeful of the close co-operation and contribution of all stakeholders to ensure that the new school year will run smoothly and be in a better position to address the challenges the whole world face particularly the education sector due to the pandemic.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education highlighted that approximately 200 private schools and kindergartens responded favourably to the invitation to attend the video conference meetings. “We ensured that private schools and kindergartens were fully prepared to receive students for the new academic year; without any obstacles that may hamper the smooth start of the academic year especially in view of the challenges the world is going through, he said". “Schools and kindergartens were also updated on the decisions made by the competent authorities to protect the safety of students, he added".
Al Naama concluded that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Private Schools work closely to ensure provision of quality educational opportunities for all students in the State of Qatar, noting that about 328 private schools and kindergartens offer a range of international curricula and programs to meet the interests and needs of 203939 students of over 85 nationalities, with 33% of Qatari students being enrolled in private schools and kindergartens.
Monitoring precautionary measures in schools
Rashid Ahmed Al Ameri, Director of Private Schools Affairs Department, stated that Private Education Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has made several meaningful arrangements to ensure the smooth running of the educational process in private schools and kindergartens. Al Ameri also pointed out that some private schools received students yesterday, while other schools will receive their students next Sunday together with government schools.
Al Ameri indicated the Ministry consultants paid field visits to all private schools and kindergartens to ensure that they are well-prepared for the new academic year and provide due support to schools and kindergartens to overcome any obstacles they may face. He added that inspection paperwork was completed and actioned to meet the main requirements of private schools and kindergartens before students start pouring into schools. Consultants have been tasked to conduct training workshops to ensure school staff's readiness for such inspection visits.
Rashid Ahmed Al Ameri, Director of Private Schools Affairs Department referred to a series of video conferencing meetings recently held with private schools and kindergartens to update them on recommendations that would contribute significantly to curbing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in close co-ordination with the Ministry of Public Health. Such recommendations have been shared with all private schools and kindergartens to raise awareness of students and parents about COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed that meetings have resulted in schools' commitment and compliance with the rules and regulations issued by the Ministry. Private schools and kindergartens were also given the opportunity to express their perspectives in relation to the challenges they have to address.
Al Ameri concluded that private schools and kindergartens have been recommended to act in strict compliance with contents of Circular No. (12) for 2021 and the safety guidelines adopted by the Health and Safety Department at the ministry of Education and Higher Education to create a safe learning environment for students and take all necessary preventive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. When it comes to learning resources and curriculum, Al Ameri highlighted total number of students had been identified in all private schools and kindergartens to provide them with textbooks of three compulsory subjects (Arabic, Islamic Education and Qatar History) right from the beginning of the new academic year.
As far as human resources of Private schools and kindergartens are concerned, Al Ameri pointed out that coordination with Private Schools Licensing Department and other competent departments is maintained to ascertain the total number of newly recruited staff and provide their related personal details to the competent authorities to ensure their smooth entry into the country. Meantime, Director of Private Schools Affairs Department indicated that plans have been in place to monitor effective implementation of Schools Events Framework particularly those related to fostering of values and national identity.
Al Ameri emphasized the importance of implementing the preventive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic and protect the safety of all people across the private schools and kindergartens. He also highlighted the close co-operation with Qatar Scouts and Guides Association to ensure the engagement of volunteers to monitor the compliance of the private schools and kindergartens with COVID-19 safety measures.
