The Israeli ambassador to India said there was evidence indicating that the small explosion near his country’s embassy in New Delhi was a “terrorist attack.” A very low-intensity improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated near the embassy on Friday. No injuries were reported and only a few nearby cars were damaged.
The blast occurred as India and Israel were marking 29 years of diplomatic ties and barely 1.5 kilometres away from where India’s top leaders were attending a ceremonial military drill that follows India’s Republic Day.
“It is too early to say who is standing behind this evil attack,” Israeli ambassador Ron Malka said on Saturday.
“Our assumption, yes it’s a terrorist attack, it targeted the Israel embassy, but it will take some more time to bring all the pieces together to understand who is behind this attack,” Malka told the WION network. He said there was “some evidence from the scene” that suggested it was a terrorist attack.
