LONDONcTypeface:> Brighton & Hove Albion signed Moises Caicedo from Independiente del Valle of Ecuador’s top-flight on Monday in what has been the biggest deal of a slow transfer deadline day so far.
Premier League champions Liverpool were looking to complete a deal for a defender after a number of first-choice centre backs are injured including Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. Ben Davies, currently at Preston North End, is a reported target with a price tag of up to two million pounds (2.7 million dollars) as well as Turkish defender Ozan Kabak in an initial loan from Bundesliga bottom side Schalke. Reports in England suggest a fee of one million pounds with an option to make Kabak’s move permanent in the summer for 18 million has been agreed between the two clubs. West Bromwich Albion also confirmed a season-long loan deal for Turkish international Okay Yokuslu from Spanish club Celta Vigo. It is West Brom’s third signing of the window after Robert Snodgrass from West Ham and Mbaye Diagne along with a reported move for Arsenal defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Clubs seem to be moving cautiously with finances impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and while practical things like meeting potential signings face-to-face is much harder given the ongoing health restrictions.
The 19-year-old midfielder Caicedo has committed to a four-year deal with Brighton that runs until 2025. The deal remains subject to international clearance but boss Graham Potter sees a lot of potential in Caicedo, who made his international debut for Ecaudor last October. “He has done very well in Ecuador and made his debut for his country at just 18,” Potter said. “He’s an exciting signing, but it is important we give him time to adjust.”
