High school students gain exposure to cutting-edge cybersecurity technology Tribune News Network Doha The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) presented a Virtual Cyber Security Workshop to a select group of senior high school students as part of its ''Innovate.Create'' series of computer engineering training programmes. Aspiring HBKU students, representing different schools across Qatar, have learned to understand both how computer attacks work and how computers can be secured against cyber-attacks. The session focused on multidisciplinary aspects of cyber security technology, as well as policy, ethics and governance related to IT security and cyber threats. The workshop was organised and led by Dr. Roberto Di Pietro at the Information and Computing Technologies Division of the CSE. As a result of the workshop''s fully practical approach, students were able to develop their skills by working in a group setting. Through a series of tasks, they have been able to build on their new insights into how security systems affect their lives, sometimes in unnoticed ways, and work on practical engineering projects and application developments. Speaking after the successful Virtual Cyber Security Workshop, Dr. Mounir Hamdi, Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, said: "Stimulating early technological vocations and identifying enthusiast young talent are key factors in fostering future cyber security professionals. The aim of CSE''s Innovate.Create workshops is to promote curiosity and the development of technical skills as a means of encouraging students to pursue this direction in their higher education, which we provide through our program of Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering." CSE currently offers 13 state-of-the-art degrees, including BSc in Computer Engineering, aimed at producing globally competitive computer engineering professionals for Qatar, the region and the wider world.
