During a message to a cross-section of members of the community on Tuesday, Nigerians in Diaspora Organization President Victor Ikoli has urged Nigerians to be hopeful for a better country despite the challenging situations that have befallen the country.
“I congratulate our Muslim brothers and sisters in the community, as well as our host country Qatar, on Eid Al-Adha this year. We must maintain hope that the change we deserve will come to pass at some point.”
He said the Eid celebration is based on peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and tolerance, and that these are the virtues that Nigerians must imbibe as they work to rid the country of all forms of deep distrust.
Ikoli, who attended an Eid celebration with some Nigerians, added that Nigerians must see themselves as one united people, especially abroad, and that the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.
Ikoli reminded the audience that the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), the agency established by the Nigerian government to manage the affairs of Diasporas, will host a webinar titled “Diaspora Integration for National Peace and Development” on July 25 to commemorate National Diaspora Day. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization, and Dr. Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, will be in attendance, as will Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, CEO of NIDCOM. (TNN)
