Qatar Charity (QC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Health Department of Somalia’s Banadir region to collaborate on healthcare delivery in the region. The MoU comes in support of the health sector’s efforts to help people in Banadir get access to health care.
The MoU was signed in the presence of many officials from both sides by Abdinur Mursal, director of Qatar Charity’s Somalia office, and Mohamed Mahmoud Addo, director of Health Department in Benadir Region. The memorandum aims to strengthen health-care collaboration, provide health and nutrition services, particularly maternal and child care, to those in need, to strengthen the health-care system, and to improve the skills of health-care workers. It also aims to put in place joint action plans to combat infectious diseases and HIV.
Mohamed Mahmoud Addo, director of Banadir’s Health Department, praised the collaboration with Qatar Charity in the field of health on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, noting that the agreement contributes positively to helping needy people who cannot afford hospital costs. He also praised Qatar Charity’s assistance to the Somali people, particularly in the field of health.
Abdinur Mursal, Director of Qatar Charity’s Somalia office, emphasised the importance of the MoU in establishing and consolidating partnerships with official authorities in the country, particularly in the health sector, noting Qatar Charity’s eagerness to collaborate with Banadir Region and the relevant units in the fields of health, education, water and sanitation, relief, and family and child care.
“Qatar Charity has always strived to alleviate the suffering of the needy and poor, as well as to contribute to meeting the health and food needs of the vulnerable in all Somali regions,” Mursal said, indicating that Qatar Charity is one of the country’s largest humanitarian organizations.He added that Qatar Charity, with the support of philanthropists in Qatar, managed to build 10 health centers in Banadir region alone in the past period.
It is worth noting that Qatar Charity signed a cooperation and partnership agreement with the Somali Ministry of Health and Human Services in 2019 to ensure Qatar Charity’s effective participation in health projects in accordance with the sectoral strategy and the ministry’s priorities.
The collaboration between the ministry and Qatar Charity includes the construction and repair of health centers and hospitals, the provision of necessary medical equipment and ambulances, the distribution of medicines, and the training of medical personnel in Somalia.
