Islamabad: Tens of thousands of educational institutions returned to normalcy in Pakistan on Monday after more than 18 months of interruptions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Pakistan ordered the closure of educational institutions in February 2020, following the lead of other countries in the region, when the first coronavirus infections were reported. Educational institutions have been operating at 50 per cent capacity across the country and faced intermittent closures due the pandemic.
The decision allowing “normal” classes was taken on the basis of “reduced level of disease spread and the launch of the school vaccination program,” Planning Minister Asad Umar, who also heads the body responsible for the country’s coronavirus response, said. (dpa)
