Moscow: Following orders from Russian President Vladimir Putin, 380 people have been flown out of Afghanistan, among them citizens from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Ukraine, the Russian Defence Ministry announced on Thursday.
According to a statement, three military transport planes flew to the Afghan capital Kabul. They had a total of 36 tonnes of cargo for humanitarian aid on board.
Russia had already brought 400 people from Afghanistan to safety at the end of August. Since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, there have been repeated attacks in the country and the humanitarian situation is considered catastrophic.
The Taliban conquered large parts of the country after the withdrawal of NATO troops began. On August 15, the group entered Kabul without a fight and have ruled since then.
Russia, along with other countries, is trying to find a political solution and has already hosted several conferences on the future of Afghanistan. (dpa)
