All sports facilities that will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar are ready 365 days before the start of the mega event.
This was revealed by Engineer Yasser Al Jamal, head of the Operations Office and Deputy Head of the Technical Office at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), at a press conference on Saturday.
Al Jamal said Qatar is enjoying the glorious World Cup atmosphere, coinciding with the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2022, on the occasion of 365 days to the launch of this historic version of the tournament hosted by Qatar for the first time in the region.
Al Jamal said, “The step of a thousand miles began with a step, during receiving the honor of hosting in December 2010, and the process of work began. Over the course of 11 years, during which Qatar attained many achievements, was able to fulfill its commitments and received fulsome praise from various international bodies, especially FIFA.”
He added, “We now have seven World Cup stadiums ready, which are Khalifa, Al Janoub, Education City, Ahmed Bin Ali, Al Thumama and Ras Abu Aboud, as well as Al Bayt Stadium, which has been ready since the end of 2019, awaiting its official inauguration on the sidelines of the opening of the Arab FIFA Cup 2021 Qatar in a few days.”
Al Jamal continued, “Today we are only one year away from the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. There has been tireless work over the past years to build eight World Cup stadiums, in addition to 40 stadiums designated for training, and we are happy to announce the readiness of most of the facilities for the FIFA World Cup.”
As for the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, its inauguration is one of the last steps to announce the complete readiness of all facilities hosting the tournament.
In Lusail Stadium all construction work is over. It is awaiting the appropriate event to be officially inaugurated in line with the size and weight of the stadium, which will host the final match of the World Cup 2022, in the presence of 80,000 spectators.
Al Jammal stressed that the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy will direct its efforts during the coming period on operational issues, in addition to enhancing the fans’ experience during the tournament and making it an exceptional experience.
He said, “There are several initiatives that will be launched to simulate the fans’ experience, from the beginning of next year until November 2022, the date of the start of the World Cup.”
With regard to the approach of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, Al Jamal said, “The Arab Cup is a dear occasion for all of us, and since winning the hosting file, Qatar has confirmed that the 2022 World Cup in Doha is a tournament for all Arabs, not just Qatar, so the Arab Cup will be a reunion event for all teams. Arab League, which will have the honor of using World Cup stadiums and facilities before any other World Cup teams, as the tournament will be held on six World Cup stadiums, in addition to 16 World Cup training grounds.”
Al Jamal indicated that the tournament will witness the opening of the Arab Cup in the presence of brothers from 16 Arab countries, in addition to the opening ceremony of Al Bayt Stadium as one of the World Cup stadiums, which will carry important messages to the Arab fans who will witness this ceremony.
He confirmed that 10 hotels have been allocated for the establishment of the Arab teams, and that delegations will start arriving in Doha starting on November 24. Palestine team was the first to arrive.
He pointed out that a special and separate hall was allocated at Hamad International Airport to receive the Arab teams, which is the same venue that will witness the arrival of the participating teams in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, a year later.
Al Jammal revealed the preparations for the event that will take place at the Doha Corniche on Sunday at 8:30 pm to celebrate the inauguration of the countdown clock for the 2022 World Cup, in the presence of a number of senior officials in the country, along with international football stars and guests of Qatar.
“It will be a festive symbolic affirmation of Qatar’s readiness to host the World Cup, and as we promised the world in 2010, we confirm today that Qatar is promising to host an impressive tournament that remains firmly rooted in the minds of the masses,” he added.
Al Jamal also talked about housing solutions for the World Cup fans.
“A partnership agreement was signed with the Accord International chain of hotel services, which will include providing hospitality services to 60,000 housing units during the tournament period.”
He added, “We signed an agreement with the Italian company (MSC) to provide Qatar during the World Cup with two floating ships, one of which is under construction, and it is the largest ship that has been built by the company, provided that the Supreme Committee will visit to inspect its occupancy during the month of next December, in addition to another ship. Ready, provided that the two ships are in Qatar at Hamad International Port on November 11, 2022, 10 days before the tournament.”
Regarding the fan zones, he indicated that the main “Fan Zone” area will be under the supervision of the International Football Association in Al-Bidaa Park and will accommodate up to 80,000 fans, and it is subject to the controls of FIFA, its partners and sponsors of the tournament.. At the same time, the company that won the tender for the “Fan Zone” area will start its work at the beginning of this year.
Al Jammal pointed out that Qatar is now working on preparing three other areas that can accommodate up to seven thousand fans, to focus on the needs in the areas of Ras Laffan and Mesaieed.
