Trainer Mohammed H. K. Al Attiyah and Al Jeryan Stud scored a hat-trick on Thursday as Qatar’s AJS Berline landed the Al Jumail Cup in Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s 12th Al Uqda Meeting at the Al Uqda Racecourse.
The feature Local Purebred Arabian Plate (Fillies & Mares only) race for Al Jumail Cup over 1400m on turf set up a nice contest but jockey Szczepan Mazur made AJS Berline move up mid-way and break past the others towards the 400m marker to stay steady till the finish to ease to a and one-and-three-four lengths victory.
The triumph also gave trainer Al Attiyah third successive win in the final three races if the day with his other horses - Latamah and Hajaj winning the Local Thoroughbred Conditions and Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 3) respectively.
For Mazur it was a quick-fire double after he had ridden Latamah to win.
QREC Racing Manager Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi honoured the winners of the Al Jumail Cup.
Earlier, the penultimate race saw Al Jeryan Stud’s Latamah prevail by one and three-fourths length under Mazur in the Local Thoroughbred Conditions for 3YO+ over 1400m.
The foruth race of the day - for 3YO+ Thoroughbred Handicap over 1400m - was claimed by Al Jeryan Stud’s Hajaj.
The Mohammed Hamad Khalifa Al Attiyah-trained horse was saddled to a comfortable win by three quarters of a length by jockey Alberto Sanna.
Injaaz Stud’s Tembel De Pine also went one better on Thursday by winning the 1400m turf race for Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate (4-6YO).
The Mohammed Ghazali-trained 5YO horse was ridden to a neck length win by jockey Marco Casamento.
Soonafter, it was another quick-fire double for Injaaz Stud and jockey Marco Casamento in the third race on the card, the Julian Smart-schooled Hadjira De Flauzins stayed on gamely to win the 1400m Purebred Arabian Handicap (0-85) by a neck length.
The trainer-jockey duo of Zuhair Mohsen and Soufiane Saadi picked up where they left off yesterday as they teamed up with Al Ghariya Racing’s Ponderosa to win the opening race of the Al Jumail Cup Day, the 2100m Thoroughbred Maiden Plate by half a length.
