Contestants from Galfar Toastmasters Club took five of 12 coveted spots in the Area 04 Annual Speech Contest. This included three first- and second-place finishes. The contestants will now represent the Area in the upcoming Division ‘A’ speech contests for District 116 on Friday, February 25.
TM Kingsley Okoro won the first place in the International speech competition and second place in the Humorous speech competition.
TM Gopalakrishnan Selvam finished second in Table Topics and third in the International competition. In the Table Topics competition, TM Subramanya Hebbagelu finished third. The Galfar Toastmasters Club (GTM) contestants who competed in the Area contests were chosen at the club’s 13th Annual Speech Contest, which was recently held online.
TM Gopalakrishnan won first place in both the International and Table Topic Speech Contests at the Club level. TM Kingsley Okoro and TM Dinesh Aditya won first place in the Humorous and Evaluation Speech Contests, respectively. The winners of first and second place represented the Club at the Area 04 competition. An expert panel of judges led by Chief Judge DTM Sabeena judged the club’s contests.
“Congratulations to all the winners and to all participants who showed courage and took interest, which is the first step for winning any contest,” said TM Venkatesan Kulandaivelu, GTM Speech Contest Manager 2022.
GTM’s commendable performance at the Area 04 Speech Contest demonstrates the motivation and resilience demonstrated by GTM members in upholding their commitment to the Toastmasters objectives of communication and leadership. Despite the COVID 19 pandemic’s restrictions, GTM’s activities were seamlessly shifted to an online platform in 2020 to maintain the necessary health and safety protocols. The members quickly adapted to the virtual structure, despite the fact that they no longer had a live physical audience to speak to, and managed to maintain their winning streak in all contests.
Galfar Al Misnad, a leading construction company in Qatar for over 25 years, established its own Corporate Toastmasters Club in 2009 as a management initiative to develop staff members’ leadership and communication skills. The company has seen a large number of employees improve their performance in their functional roles as good speakers and effective leaders as a result of this program.
Within three years of the Club’s inception, members began competing in Area Contests, and by 2016, they were competing in Division Level Contests. In the speech contests, GTM has ensured its representation all the way up to the District level.
In addition, many club members are preparing to take on leadership roles at the Area, Division, and District levels.
In 2021, GTM received Toastmasters International’s first Diamond Corporate Club Award. The club is also a frequent winner of the organization’s top rung awards, including numerous wins of the Best Corporate Club Award and the President’s Distinguished Club Award.
