The embassies of Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and El Salvador recently organised a coffee evening in collaboration with local reputed brand ‘Flat White Specialty Coffee’, at the iconic 2022 building near Aspetar Hospital in Doha.
Ambassador of Costa Rica HE Mariano Segura, Ambassador of Dominican Republic HE Georges Bahsa Hazim and Ambassador of El Salvador HE Milton Alcides Magana Herrera received the guests and thanked Maryam Al Bader and Nasser Al Naemi, the Qatari founders of the local Qatari brand of Coffee Shop chain of Flat White Specialty Coffee, for their support and cooperation in introducing and displaying the coffee brands of their countries.
Talking to Qatar Tribune on the occasion, Maryam Al Bader thanked the excellencies for choosing Flat White Coffee Shop as a platform for the display of coffee from their countries and meet coffee lovers to bridge relations.
Qatar, she said, is no exception for coffee lovers.
“Go to any corner of Qatar streets, and you find cafes full of customers spending their free and leisure time with friends and family members even until late evenings. However, there was a big gap and there was a requirement for top quality coffee in Qatar. That’s why the decisioin to fill this gap. Moreover, it is part of their vision and mission to promote culture of coffee in Qatar,” she noted.
She said that at Flat White, they are using Costa Rican and El Salvador coffee. Al Bader added that she and her husband Nasser Al Naemi were looking for the best farms in these three Latin American states to import the best quality of beans, and they are now hopeful to build relations.Both Maryam Al Bader and Nasser Al Naeemi have a deep passion for coffee and they feel there is a big demand for quality coffee in Qatar. For that, both of them travelled to the US, the UK and Turkey and completed various courses and worked there to learn more about the commodity, its market and gained practical experience to understand it thoroughly.
Upon return from their extensive theoretical and practical trainings, and courses, they opened the first branch of their own brand in 2016 and today, they have six branches. Talking about the brand name, she said the first name is catchy, and the drink is a balance between milk and coffee. “While drinking you can find the origin of the coffee itself. It is between cappuccino and latte, less form than cappuccino and less milk than latte making a perfect balance.”
Coffee, third most consumed beverage after water and tea, is among very few crops around the world which can claim popularity in all regions. Coffee is produced in more than 70 countries across various regions of the globe. However, major coffee-producing countries include Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia, Columbia, Ethiopia, Honduras, India, Mexico, Peru, Uganda, Guatemala and Nicaragua -- which share around 87 % of total worldwide production.
According to International Coffee Organization, Latin American states produce almost 60 % of total coffee beans worldwide. Coffee is the second most traded commodity world-wide after oil. Coffee beans are not only used for brewing coffee but the beans are used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and caffeine for some of the beverages.
