Qatar Charity (QC) has announced a donation of 500,000 rands to the Durban flood solidarity fund during a press conference following the arrival of a Qatari aid plane for the Republic of South Africa on Thursday.
Qatar’s Ambassador to South Africa HE Tariq Ali Al-Ansari said this donation reflects the principles and ethics of humanitarian and relief work in Qatar, which is one of the pillars of the State’s policy.
The South African government has welcomed the much-needed humanitarian aid from Qatar, which is expected to bolster efforts in response to the recent devastating floods in KwaZulu-Natal.
Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, South Africa’s Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), emphasised the importance of the assistance provided by Qatar to her country, particularly the province of KwaZulu, as it demonstrates Qatar’s solidarity with South Africa.
Dr Naledi Pandor, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, welcomed the donation from Qatar and praised the two countries’ strong relations, describing them as a true international friendship established by the people and government of Qatar.
Food, clothing, generators, water purifiers, ventilators, tents and medical supplies were among the humanitarian aid delivered by Qatar. (QNA)
