Qatar and United Kingdom have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on enhancing bilateral relations between both countries in the education sector and increasing understanding and knowledge exchange between the two countries through expanding educational partnerships.
Qatari Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi and British Secretary of State for Education HE Nadhim Zahawi signed the MoU during a meeting held in Doha to discuss areas of educational cooperation.
The signing of the MoU came as an affirmation of the two governments’ desire to promote and develop cooperation in educational fields of common interest with a special focus on supporting the human development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, and Qatar’s constant strive to reach a knowledge-based economy.
The agreement focused on cooperation in the fields of sustainability, climate change, standards for educational qualification and vocational development, adoption of educational qualifications in blended and distance education, in addition to special education and educational technologies, as well as the exchange of experiences and cooperation between higher education institutions and research centers.
The Minister of Education and Higher Education said the MoU would widen the horizons for cooperation between both countries, enhance the exchange of experience and apply best practices.
She added that the MoU particularly influences the domain of educational governance and policies, such as education technology, vocational education and quality assurance in schools and higher education institutions, in addition to catering to the educational needs of students with disabilities, and other topics of interest. The minister thanked her British counterpart for his role in advancing educational cooperation for the benefit of both countries.
