Read Pakistan-Qatar Chapter organised its first book club event highlighting the importance of reading books among the children at The Next Generation School recently.
The event was directed and hosted by Uzma Ansari. Describing the importance of books, Farzana Safder spelt out the benefits of reading books to children. The children who read different books on the occasion were Ayesha Mushtaq, Zakariya Nadeem, Kibriya Nadeem, Sajjad Ayaz and Usman Sabir.
Huma Mirza read out the story book ‘Chicken Licken’ which was well-liked by children who participated in the event enthusiastically. At the end of the story segment, some questions were asked which were well answered by the children.
There was also a segment on drawing and sketching. Children enjoyed sketching their favourite cartoon characters. At the end of the event, gifts were distributed among children.
Shahida Khan, president of Read Pakistan-Qatar Chapter, thanked the parents, children and the organising team for the success of the event. She also thanked TNG School CEO Shagufta Bakali for providing school auditorium and facilities for the event.
Highlighting the importance of books, she urged the parents to play their role in making the new generation habitual of not only reading textbooks but also other informative books by accessing their school libraries.
Prominent among those who attended the event were Dr Sobia, Maryam Khalid, Safa Safdar of Radio Qatar FM107, Saima Sabir, Saadia, Rida, Zahida Nargis and Pakistan International School – Qatar English teacher Naheed.
Read Pakistan is a trust registered under the Trust Act, with a team of highly motivated professionals working for an educated Pakistan creating reading facilities accessible to all and to train teachers, librarians and parents to put a greater emphasis on reading habits among children.
The overall objective of Read Pakistan is to ensure that every person gets a reading opportunity and to train the librarians and teachers in promoting reading habits, quality literacy instruction, life-long reading, clarify educational issues for decision makers and support research in literacy.
