Islamabad A man suspected of murder in Britain, who eluded law enforcement agencies for over two-and-a-half decades, has been arrested in Pakistan.
The arrest in the city of Rawalpindi was the culmination of a 27-year-long manhunt by Britain’s National Crime Agency and Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Muhammad Basharat, 49, is suspected of killing an Indian trader in 1995 in Britain.
When he was arrested he was living in Pakistan-administered Kashmir under a new name and running businesses in Rawalpindi, investigators said.
“He had no clue his cover was blown. We arrested him with the help of a human intelligence network,” Sheikh Zubair Ahmad, a senior FIA officer, told dpa. (dpa)
