FULLY automated postal delivery drones developed jointly by Qatar Postal Service Company (Q-Post) and Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) are a big success, a Q-Post official told Qatar Tribune at the QITCOM 2017 exhibition.
While exhibiting the drones developed at the Smart Innovation Lab of the MoTC, a senior member of the team, Malike Bouaud, said: “The drones have all advanced technical features and are ready for operation. Currently, different government agencies are being consulted on the application of these drones for postal delivery.”
Describing the initial phase of conceptualisation of the five-phase project and development of the drone as a challenging one, Bouaud said, the drones can be controlled from a single platform managed by the Postal Department.
“Our researches are still studying how the project can benefit establishments in public and private sectors. We hope the project will meet its target within the scheduled time of five years.”
An official member of the team which developed the drone said that responsibility and safety are very important in postal service. “Since safety is a big concern we are seeking approval of all concerned authorities, particularly the Civil Aviation Authority to launch the drone,” he remarked.
Q-Post assumes that the unmanned postal delivery drones will have far reaching impact on business, particularly on e-commerce in a booming economy.
Meanwhile, the two made in Qatar drones put on display are one of the major attractions of QITCOM exhibition.
